This week Belton Regional Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest Health System — Kansas City’s largest healthcare provider and private sector employer, celebrated the first year anniversary of the opening of the hospital and Cass County’s only Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology (CVIR) Lab.

Since opening the lab in June of 2013, the hospital has performed 169 procedures which included 30 Heart Catheterizations, 13 first time Pacemaker Implants, 20 Cardioversions, 61 Pic Line Placements, and 11 IVC Filter Placements.   Prior to opening the CVIR Lab, Belton Regional Medical Center’s patients needing these types of procedures were faced with leaving their community to have these procedures performed in other hospitals. A major milestone for the CVIR lab occurred on May 21st when our first Peripheral Stent/Angioplasty was performed by Radiologist Dion DePaolis, MD.

The Cardiologists performing these procedures in our hospital included Elizabeth Dang, MD; Richard Brown, MD;  Peter Park MD;  and Radiologist Kevin Litwin, MD; Dion DePaolis, MD; Graham Lee, MD; and Thomas Patrick Sweeney, MD.

“This lab was many years in the planning for our hospital and to now see the fruition of our first year anniversary of opening the CVIR lab and performing this type of procedures puts our hospital at the top technologically in this area,” stated Dr. Dang.

“We understand what matters most to our patients is for our hospital to deliver quality, compassionate, innovative healthcare to those in our community.   Belton Regional Medical Center continues its commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of our patients with our leading-edge technology and with our skilled clinicians by offering this wide range of cardiac and interventional services.”  “The procedures performed  in our CVIR lab are minimally invasive requiring less recovery time for our patients,” stated Todd Krass, Chief Executive Officer, for Belton Regional Medical Center.
