Today HCA Midwest Health announces Belton Regional Medical Center, along with six other HCA Midwest Health hospitals serving the Greater Kansas City region, has received Top Performer recognition by The Joint Commission. Belton Regional Medical Center is being recognized for achieving quality thresholds for pneumonia, surgical care and VTE.
In addition to Belton Regional Medical Center, the other HCA Midwest Health hospitals named Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, America’s leading accreditor of healthcare organizations, include Centerpoint Medical Center, Lafayette Regional Health Center, Lee’s Summit Medical Center, Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park Regional Medical Center and Research Medical Center. HCA Midwest Health is Kansas City’s leading healthcare provider.
The seven hospitals are being recognized by The Joint Commission based on data reported about evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, children’s asthma, inpatient psychiatric services, stroke, tobacco use, substance use, venous thromboembolism (VTE), immunization, and perinatal care.
“Excellent health care is what all patients expect and deserve,” says M.L. Lagarde III, President, HCA Midwest Health. “HCA Midwest Health physicians and employees strive to care for every patient using the best evidence-based care. We’re honored to have seven hospitals included on this distinguished list. This distinct recognition indeed proves we are being true to our Mission: “Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.”
The HCA Midwest Health hospitals are among few hospital systems in the U.S. earning the distinction of Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. The ratings are based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2014 calendar year.
Belton Regional Medical Center is being recognized for achieving these quality thresholds for pneumonia and surgical care. It has received these distinctions for five consecutive years. It is also being recognized for achieving quality thresholds in VTE.
“Since 1984, Belton Regional Medical Center’s mission has been to provide southern Jackson and northern Cass County residents access to a full spectrum of high-quality, effective healthcare resources,” says Todd Krass, Chief Executive Officer, Belton Regional Medical Center. “We are extremely pleased to once again be recognized for the extraordinary work of our entire medical staff and employees to perform a high level of compassionate, patient-centered care.”
To be a 2014 Top Performer, hospitals had to meet three performance criteria based on 2014 accountability measure data, including: Achieving cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures; achieving performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there were at least 30 denominator cases; and having at least one core measure set that had a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and (within that measure set) all applicable individual accountability measures had a performance rate of 95 percent or above.
“Belton Regional Medical Center, Centerpoint Medical Center, Lafayette Regional Health Center, Lee’s Summit Medical Center, Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Research Medical Center and all the Top Performer hospitals have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to quality improvement and they should be proud of their achievement,” says Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., President and Chief Executive Officer, The Joint Commission. “Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality health care. I commend the efforts of Belton Regional Medical Center for their excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions.”
